The Gialloblu were 4-1 up at one stage of the game, but they struggled to hold on for a win in a match that eventually ended 4-3.

“We started well with a great goal by Djamel Mesbah, so nice that we lost focus for a while,” the former Italy boss noted.

“Then we scored more goals, marvellous ones, before conceding an absurd counter attack at the end of the first half.

“We should have managed the match better and we need to mark better.”

Parma were also handicapped by the 52nd minute dismissal of Amauri who was shown a red card for verbally abusing the referee.

“His red card unbalanced us,” Donadoni added. “He’s an experienced player and he should know better.

“I’m not aware of what he said, but the referee will have had his reasons.”

Marco Parolo, who grabbed two goals, noted: “This team wants to fight and has shown it. I am happy.
