Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini discussed the new stadium project, but confessed it’s “unrealistic” to keep Nicolò Barella from moving on.
The Sardinians earned a 3-0 victory at Chievo on Friday evening, the first Serie A win on their travels since September 2, ending a run of five consecutive away defeats.
“In my five years at this club, this is the first time we’ve won at the Bentegodi,” Giulini told Sky Sport Italia.

“Even Milan struggled here, so we were fortunate to break the deadlock early and that got the game on the right track.”
This week, Cagliari received another go-ahead from the local authorities to build their new stadium, although it’s believed the first actual construction work won’t begin for well over a year.
“That was a fundamental step and it came at the last second. Now we can start with the definitive planning and hope to complete that by the end of the year.
“With a new stadium, we can raise our ambitions. It’s difficult to fight it out with clubs who have enormous budgets, but look at what Atalanta have done in recent years. We’ll try to follow that example.”
The problem is that Atalanta regularly sell their star names and sides all over Europe are lining up for Italy international midfielder Barella.
“It would be marvellous to keep him with us and grow together, but I don’t know how realistic that is as things stand.”
Barella has a price-tag of over €50m, with the likes of Arsenal, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter, Napoli, Milan, Roma and Chelsea all interested.
