The Bianconeri are without CR7, who picked up a muscular injury on international duty with Portugal and could even be at risk for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final with Ajax next month.

Andrea Barzagli, Douglas Costa and Juan Cuadrado are also side-lined.

Leonardo Bonucci is expected to rest, with Daniele Rugani set to take over rather than Martin Caceres, while Mattia De Sciglio is only fit enough for a place on the bench.

Moise Kean started both Italy games, scoring against Finland and Liechtenstein, so is initially rested today in favour of Mandzukic, who should be flanked by Bernardeschi and Dybala.

Empoli have defender Matias Silvestre suspended, with Antonino La Gumina, Levan Mchedlidze, Kevin Diks and Jacob Rasmussen unavailable.

Rasmussen was a late addition to the absentee list, as he returned from international duty with a knock to the head and the medics decided not to run any risks.

Rade Krunic is expected to pull the midfield strings, with Diego Farias and Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Caputo upfront.

Juve went into the break for international duty off a surprise 2-0 defeat to Genoa, their first Serie A loss of the season, and are now up against a highly-motivated side on the edge of the relegation zone.

The return of Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli has also boosted confidence following a spell under Beppe Iachini.

Probable line-ups

Juventus (4-3-3): Szczesny; Cancelo, Rugani, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Emre Can, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic, Dybala

Empoli (3-5-2): Dragowski; Veseli, Maietta, Dell’Orco; Di Lorenzo, Traoré, Bennacer, Krunic, Pajac; Farias, Caputo
