Sebastian Giovinco hit back at criticism of his performance for Italy in Armenia. “All you care about is a goal.”

The Juventus starlet was in the starting XI for last night’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying victory, but did not impress.

“You say I played badly? That’s strange…” replied the Atomic Ant in the Press room afterwards.

“If someone doesn’t score, then in your view he hasn’t played well. All you care about is a goal and you don’t even look at the rest, like movement, performance and anything else a player does throughout a match.

“Of course I hope the goal arrives soon and I’d like to score, as that is all that’s missing. At times the ball goes in and others it doesn’t.”

Mario Balotelli was meant to start last night’s game, but pulled out with a cold and made way for Giovinco.

“The important thing in Armenia was to win, even when struggling, as that’s understandable away from home.”
