"My three seasons at Milan were a fantastic experience for me," he told Sky Sport Italia. "That spell will always remain in my heart despite the difficult moments."

Gilardino arrived at the Meazza with high expectations after scoring 46 League goals in two seasons at Parma.

He netted 17 League goals in his first term with the Diavolo, but then only hit 12 in 2006-07 and just seven during his last campaign.

"It is always emotional for me to go back to the Stadio Meazza but there is one thing that saddens me," he added.

"It's the so many whistles and jeers that the Rossoneri fans direct at me. It happens every time that I return there."
