“The team trained well, despite some injuries, and we must try to overcome the obstacles in front of us,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Udinese had a good start this season and even had ambitions of something more than safety, but then went on a negative run that prompted the change of Coach from Julio Velazquez to Davide Nicola.

“The Friulani are strong, physical and have a lot of quality too. It’s going to be a very, very tough test. If we accept it as a physical battle, we risk losing a lot of individual duels. It’s important we always focus on playing our football.”

Gaston Ramirez is suspended, while Gianluca Caprari fractured his fibula this week and had surgery on Friday.

“Jacopo Sala is another important element to our team, but we have the men to cover those gaps. Karol Linetty only just returned to training with the team on Thursday, but seemed to be in good shape. Edgar Barreto is unavailable.

“Either Gabbiadini or Gregoire Defrel will certainly start. Whoever doesn’t start will nonetheless be used as the game goes on.”

The most important Samp player by far is Fabio Quagliarella, who just a few days shy of his 36th birthday is hoping to match Gabriel Batistuta’s all-time record of scoring in 11 consecutive Serie A games.
