“I don’t things are that bad. Atalanta are extraordinary at the moment, they’ve been playing together for years, are well-drilled and have this remarkable self-belief,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We started our journey six weeks ago and must earn our credibility and confidence day by day. We did some good things today, but Atalanta right now were beyond our reach and we needed a little luck to get something from this game.
“If anything, this performance will show us where we can improve and grow, but it was not the match where we expected to pick up three points.
“I analyse the game with the players at my disposal, so I won’t use any alibis by discussing the transfer market. These lads are giving their all and I was well aware even before kick-off that we were not on Atalanta’s level and they are tough for any opponent, let alone us at this stage of the process.”
Giampaolo is completely revamping the tactics of the Torino squad after Walter Mazzarri and Moreno Longo, but won't use fan complaints about the lack of reinforcements as an alibi.
“We have a lot of work to do, for example this is a side accustomed to defending with three at the back and man-marking. We need time to transform that approach entirely.
“I came to Toro in order to play my football. The issue of players and who to bring in is all within the club and must not be made public. I will not stand here asking for players.”
