Cesena have confirmed that they have come to an agreement to end Marco Giampaolo’s contract, saving the club up to €1m.

Former Siena and Catania man Giampaolo was brought in at the Dino Manuzzi last summer, but only lasted until the end of October as Coach of the Cavallucci Marini after a disastrous start to the season.

As is the case in Italy with most Coaches that are removed from their position, Giampaolo actually remained on Cesena’s payroll, effectively as he was placed on gardening leave.

However, that arrangement has come to an end, with the 44-year-old Coach agreeing to sever his contract and its €450,000 annual salary early, in effect saving the club almost €1m in wages.

Current boss Mario Beretta is the only Coach on the club’s payment structure now, after Daniele Arrigoni – who succeeded Giampaolo and preceded Beretta – terminated his contract by mutual consent when he left February.
