Daniel Ciofani’s goal was all that separated the two sides, with Sampdoria’s hopes of qualifying for Europe taking a hit.

Giampaolo identified where he believes his side went wrong in trying to find a way back into the game, and has called on them to respond positively.

“We didn’t show enough patience as Frosinone were able to defend their advantage with compactness and we couldn’t find the winning spark so this defeat leaves a feeling of disappointment,” he told Radio Rai.

“We didn’t expect such a defeat, and so now we must go and get three points in a difficult game as Frosinone did here at Marassi.

“Given the results that we’ve obtained and the ambitions of this team, it’s a disappointing defeat, but we have to go again.”

Sampdoria will look to bounce back away at Inter next Sunday, as they look to make up a five-point deficit to sixth place.
