“We all played below par this evening. Germany are a different opponent to Spain, who prefer vertical passes rather than possession,” the Bologna winger told Rai Sport.

“It’s an ugly result, we need to analyse the game and identify our mistakes. In all honesty, if someone got ahead of themselves after the performance with Spain then that was a huge error. A draw in a friendly is nothing.

“I remain convinced it’s important that we got this result today, as it will help us improve before the Euros. Friendlies are important tests and we do go out there aiming to win, but they can help us see the level we’ll be facing.

“It was a bad performance this evening, our approach wasn’t great, while we struggled more on the flanks than on previous occasions.

“Germany are a strong side, but we could’ve certainly done more and I am convinced we’ve got a big margin of improvement. Our objective is to go to the Euros and win, not make a cameo appearance.”
