Emanuele Giaccherini has backed Antonio Conte to succeed Cesare Prandelli as Italy’s national team Coach.

Prandelli resigned from the post in the wake of the Azzurri’s disappointing World Cup campaign, where they were eliminated at the Group Stage.

Speaking to Sky Sport today, the Sunderland player was in no doubt as to who would be a good choice as the new CT.

“Prandelli’s resignation? I don’t want to get into his decisions," Giaccherini said. "I think that his decision was made out of disappointment with results.

“The new CT? Conte wouldn’t be bad. I continued to hear from the boss even after my move to Sunderland because we had not just a professional relationship.

“I cannot forget my adventure at Juve, where we won a lot. Conte gave me a lot and I can’t forget that.”
