Parma chief Tommaso Ghirardi believes 40 points will be enough to ensure Serie A survival this term.

The struggling Gialloblu are hovering just above the relegation zone after collecting 32 points from 31 games so far.

"If we'd have won last week then we would have been just five points shy of safety," said the President. "As we lost, we now still need eight.

"With seven games to go I think we can collect what we need. I believe that 40 points will be sufficient to stay in Serie A."

Parma suffered a shock 2-1 home reverse to bottom of the table Bari a week ago, a defeat which cost Pasquale Marino his job.

"I'm saddened and disappointed by the loss because with a win we would be in a more tranquil position for the last six weeks of the season," Ghirardi noted.

"When you get towards the end of a campaign, three points mean a lot – not just for the League table but also for morale."

Former Bologna boss Franco Colomba was hired as Marino's replacement in midweek and he'll make his debut at Lazio on Sunday.
