Defender Velazquez was signed over the summer, but he returned to Argentina when Independiente claimed they had not received the full payment.

They have refused to register the international transfer, although Genoa insist they did provide all the necessary instalments.

“I think Independiente have a financial interest in not registering the player for us, but in the end the transfer will arrive and everything will be resolved,” Genoa President Enrico Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia.

“After all, Velazquez is definitively a Genoa player.”

However, the defender is in Argentina and back training with Independiente amid reports he could play against Quilmes this weekend.

“I have been told that I’ll stay here and I really want to play,” he told Dos de Punta.

“Genoa were given every chance to pay what they owed, but instead how did they behave? They treated us like idiots.

“They went over the line and so we decided I would return here to Independiente. I’m sure the matter will end up in the courts.”
