Genoa could be about to swoop for a third midfielder in Lille’s Thiago Maia.

Genoa clinched deals for Lasse Schone and Riccardo Saponara on Saturday, and Sky Sport Italia reports they have now opened talks for Maia.

The 22-year-old won Olympic gold with Brazil in 2016 and moved to Lille a year later in a €14m deal.

Despite being a regular in his first season with Les Dogues, he started just 11 times in Ligue 1 last term.

Nonetheless, he was linked with Roma and Milan in the January transfer window.

A move to the Grifone would have the hallmarks of when Thiago Motta joined in 2008, given both are left-footed defensive midfielders.
