According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rafael Leao has agreed to sign a contract extension with Milan and the club hope he’ll put pen to paper on the new deal next week.

The pink paper claims Leao and Milan reached a verbal agreement during a meeting on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old earns €1.5m per season at San Siro where his current deal expires in June 2024. According to Gazzetta, the Rossoneri are now close to finalising a contract extension worth €7m for the next five years. The deal also comes with a signing bonus of €2m.

The only piece missing is the agreement between Milan and Sporting CP, which, however, has never been this close, reports the pink paper.

The Portuguese striker famously owns €22m to his ex-club after terminating his contract unilaterally in 2018. The original fee was €16.5m which has been raised to €22m with legal costs and interests.

Milan, alongside Lille, the club Leao joined on a free transfer in 2018, are close to reaching an agreement with Sporting and the green light from Portugal is the only thing missing before Leao’s signature.
