Italy is one of the hardest hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic and experienced the worst daily death toll since the outbreak.

The Partenopei coach used social media to voice his message of concern and praise the “doctors and nurses doing a great job”.

“Hi everyone, I’m Mr Gattuso,” he said in a video posted on Napoli's official Twitter account. “I wanted to say hello to all Italians, to all Napoli fans, to all Europeans and football fans all over the world.

“I know we are going through a moment that’s not very beautiful; I ask you to stay at home. It’s fundamental, because our doctors and nurses are doing a great job.

“I’m sorry for those who left us and for this we must respect the rules. I know it’s difficult, but everyone needs to make an effort.”
