Bologna played much better than we did,” confessed the coach to DAZN. “We were alright in the first half, but basically didn’t play at all in the second.

“This was worse than the last seven or eight games and that is unacceptable. I am not interested when I hear people say we were lacking motivation, because we’ve got Barcelona in a few weeks. We suffered today, Bologna caused us problems, we did not play as a team and we were lucky to get a point.

“We were stretched out in the second half, it was like five months ago. Bologna were dangerous every time they went forward and the team really is in the mould of Sinisa Mihajlovic, they never give up, which we saw with their draw in Parma.”

The two tacticians sat on the bench chatting during the warm-up, both rugged former players and now determined coaches.

“Sinisa is grittier than I am,” smiled Gattuso. “I bark, but I don’t bite. When Sinisa barks, you have to watch out.”
