Sampdoria captain Daniele Gastaldello has claimed that he is focusing entirely on his performances for the club, despite rumours of a national team call-up.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a place in Cesare Prandelli's side for the Confederations Cup after a series of impressive displays for his side.

But the defender has insisted that he is not thinking about the Azzurri, just the exciting times that lay ahead at the Marassi.

“I want to do well for Sampdoria first,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Then we will see what happens.

“If I did receive a call it would be because of the effort I have put in here.

“There is a great atmosphere here after two very difficult years.

“We had a goal and we are getting closer to achieving to it. We will not relax though.

“We have the likes of Obiang, Krsticic, Icardi here now – and this year they have shown so much.”
