Gian Piero Gasperini seems to commit his future to Atalanta and says that records beaten by La Dea during his tenure are ‘like trophies.’

Atalanta have been among the most exciting teams in Serie A over the last few years. They have qualified for the Champions League for three seasons in a row and even reached the quarter-finals in 2019-20. They lost two Coppa Italia Finals, but despite being still trophyless in Bergamo, Gasperini is proud of the path taken by La Dea.

“Europe has made us become a better team. This season, we haven’t been as good, but hopefully, we can improve in the last six games,” he said at an event with La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luigi Garlando today.

“Football has changed in the last six years. Atalanta were a team founded on experienced players, but things changed after the famous game with Napoli. I played promising products of the academy such as Mattia Caldara, Roberto Gagliardini, Andrea Conti, then Andrea Petagna and Alessandro Bastoni…the rest is history.

“Every record beaten is like a trophy. I was sad in the summer when I heard that a fan envied those of Verona because they have won a Scudetto. That being said, we’ll work to win one…”
