Mauricio Pinilla was denied claims for a spot-kick in the 95th minute after being felled by Palermo’s Ezequiel Munoz, and Gasperini is adamant that the penalty should have been given.
“Looking at the replay, it’s seems very clear that it was a penalty,” Gasperini considered in a post-match interview with Sky.
“A tackle was made, and even though there were only a few seconds left until the end of the match, when it’s that clear you can give a penalty.
“Seeing it live, I honestly didn’t know, but seeing the replay there is no doubt: It’s a penalty.
Genoa striker Diego Perotti felt that the result was two points dropped, and Gasperini admitted that he was disappointed not to have won the game.
“Am I disappointed to draw? Yes, especially after how the game went.
“We had to recover [after going 1-0 down], and perhaps had to be more cynical in front of goal, but I can be satisfied with my players’ performance.
“Some of Palermo’s chances were down to carelessness on our part, but we were good at winning the ball back high up the park and overall we did well.
“We only allowed them a few chances, but in football you pay for the chances you allow.”
The former Inter Coach also had words of praise for Paulo Dybala of Palermo, after the young Argentinian’s wondergoal and fantastic overall contribution.
“When you are forced to dictate the game, obviously it leaves some space at the back for someone like Dybala,” Gasperini reflected.
“Palermo were dangerous on several occasions and Dybala was super.
“Dybala has always had great talent. Two years ago he showed it in flashes, now he’s gotten more consistency, because he’s two years older.
“18 years old to 20 years old is a big difference. However, I’m glad for his growth.
“He had a good game.”
