The Orobici had been due to take part in the Europa League preliminary rounds, but with Milan excluded for Financial Fair Play violations, they were bumped up to the group stage.

They played their first friendly of the summer today, beating a local side 7-0 with a brace from Musa Barrow, while Josip Ilicic, Papu Gomez, Jose Luis Palomino, Rafael Toloi and Marco Tumminello were also on target.

“The lads showed some good things and are enjoying themselves, which is what football is for,” Gasperini told reporters.

“However, we are a long way behind schedule, as we need a reinforcement in every area of the team. It’s necessary to speed things up if we want to be competitive in every tournament that awaits us this season.”
