Gian Piero Gasperini is back at Palermo just 19 days after his dismissal and says he was recalled because “I’m the right person to get us kick-started.”

The Sicilians started the season with Giuseppe Sannino, then Gasperini was brought in after three rounds. He too was sacked on February 4, but replacement Alberto Malesani lasted just three games before Gasp was recalled.

“I think this week we spent in a training camp at Novarello helped us to work better and stay more united,” said the Coach ahead of the Sunday match with Torino.

“I believe that I was recalled because I was the right person to get us kick-started. Unfortunately we have dropped too many points in the final minutes, otherwise our table would look different.

“It is possible we will use a trident attack. Fabrizio Miccoli is a player of a superior quality to the others. He has suffered with injuries, but has still often been decisive.

“Apart from Josip Ilicic, we also now have Mauro Boselli and Alejandro Faurlin who provide me with different alternatives in attack.”

Palermo are propping up the Serie A table despite the fact Siena have a six-point penalty.

“We have been struggling for a few months, but with a better atmosphere I think anything is possible,” continued Gasperini.

“There are still 12 games to go, including six on home turf, and we must do our best. Even picking up points only at home might be enough to save ourselves.

“I’ve already seen teams change gear psychologically in the final three months. We know that we cannot make a mistake, because we belong to a strong club and can have our say.”
