Gian Piero Gasperini feels there is more to come from Atalanta after they beat Lecce 3-1 and hopes they “reduce the gap” in the Champions League.

Atalanta are flying high in Serie A with four victories in five courtesy of Sunday’s result, but they lost their two opening Champions League games and face English champions Manchester City next.

“We had a great performance, confirming our good run of form,” Gasperini said after the match.

“We’ve christened the new part of our stadium, which will be completed at a later date, in the best way.

“The fans were great, the best they’ve ever been, but the result was perhaps a bit tight for the chances we created.

“We still have room for growth. We had several chances, which we didn’t take. We must be more ruthless.

“Still, I’m happy. We’ve put together a run of games with quality. We’re constantly seeking confirmation.

“We always know what to do and we have more options now. Over the years we’ve reduced the gap with the big sides.

“We also want to do that in the Champions League.”
