The tactician had a very brief spell on the Nerazzurri bench in 2011, but was fired after four draws and a defeat in all competition.

“Perhaps I should never have taken the Inter job or started that adventure,” confessed Gasp in his Press conference.

“They made a mistake choosing me and I was wrong to accept the offer, because I simply couldn’t work in that environment. We had two very different ideas of football.

“It was three years ago, but I’m not over it yet and I don’t think anything has really changed at Inter. I hope Roberto Mancini can handle it better than I did.

“I thank Genoa for having believed in me again. Would I enjoy a result tomorrow even more? Not for me, but for Genoa.”

Gasperini has certainly come forward in leaps and bounds this season, as after 17 rounds Genoa have 27 points compared to Inter’s 22.

“It doesn’t happen every day to face Inter with a five-point advantage near the halfway stage of the season.

“The team is working well and ready to play this game. We’re facing a quality side that has reinforced over the transfer window, but we want to have our say too.

“We are working on the market too and need to resolve a few situations. Nobody should expect fireworks, but the club is moving to take any good opportunities.”
