Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini insists he “wasn’t to blame” for Alberto Gilardino’s Guangzhou move.

Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini insists he “wasn’t to blame” for Alberto Gilardino’s Guangzhou move.

The striker completed his transfer to Marcello Lippi’s Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande this week and openly accused Gasperini of pushing him out.

“I leave Genoa with a heavy heart, because Gasperini pushed for my sale. It was crazy,” declared Gila.

However, the Coach spoke to Secolo XIX newspaper and had a different version of events.

“His choice was more than legitimate and Gilardino had more courage than I did, as I turned down a proposal from China.

“It was his choice, though, and had nothing to do with me. I stepped aside, observed what was happening and realised he was interested in the negotiation process.

“Therefore, I simply organised for a future without Gilardino.”
