Roma Coach Rudi Garcia believes the League table “only counts psychologically” at this early stage.

The Giallorossi are four points behind current leaders Inter, who have taken a maximum 12 points from their opening four games.

“Credit to Inter, [but] in the last two seasons we have five wins after the first five games,” Garcia reminded journalists in his Press conference ahead of the trip to Sampdoria.

“It’s too early to say now that the League is over, the season doesn't end after the fourth day. What would you say about the teams behind us?

“The table only counts psychologically at the moment. The more games we win, the closer we’ll get to the top of the table, so I’m angry that we didn’t win against Sassuolo.

“If we put together a run of three wins, we can take an important leap forward in the standings and put distance between ourselves and other teams, so that’s what’s disappointing about Sunday.

“We’ve had good games, and others have been less good. We must be calm, and work calmly, we won’t be judged on the season so far.

“We started with eight points, we beat Juventus and drew with Barcelona, so it’s hardly catastrophic.

“We have to win tomorrow then we have Carpi, [Bate] Borisov and we’ll end this run against Palermo. After that maybe we’ll have a clearer idea of where we are.

“We’re like a cyclist, head down just trying to get as many points as possible.”

Given the busy schedule, will Garcia be tempted to make wholesale changes for tomorrow’s match?

“You can see from the results of other teams who have made changes that there’s no rule. We have to play well to win.

“We have to do better than we did against Sassuolo, especially in the first half, but I’m not looking back, I’m thinking about tomorrow.

“I saw a good second half, we’ve analysed the things which we can’t do again.

"We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves, we’re focused on Sampdoria. Having dropped points at home we have to make up for it away from home.”
