Adriano Galliani praised rivals Inter ahead of tonight’s huge Milan derby and said Massimiliano Allegri “deserved his contract renewal.”

The joint Serie A leaders are unbeaten in 12, while the Nerazzurri have won five on the trot, so the pressure is on at San Siro.

“We are going to play an incredibly important game against a very strong side. Inter have a wonderful squad,” Vice-President Galliani told Milan Channel.

In the last few days the Rossoneri have extended Coach Allegri’s contract to June 2014, as it was set to expire this summer.

“I remember saying a long time ago that Allegri was the right fit for Milan. He deserved his contract renewal for all the great work he did, winning the Scudetto in his first season. Of course there were negotiations about money, because everyone is in a financial crisis, then we reached an agreement.”

Some star names will be forced to watch the derby from the stands, as Antonio Cassano is recovering from a minor stroke and Gennaro Gattuso is still struggling with an eye condition.

“I spoke to Antonio earlier and we hope he can return as soon as possible. As for Gattuso, he will overcome this latest setback.”
