At least one transfer soap opera seems to be over, as Gabriel Barbosa is heading back to Santos on an 18-month loan, giving Inter €1.5m.

According to Mediaset Premium, Gabigol has agreed to reduce his salary during the spell at his hometown club.

Santos will also hand over €1.5m to Inter for the 18-month period and share the wages with the Nerazzurri.

Gabigol had been on loan at Benfica with option to buy, but made only five competitive appearances for a grand total of 164 minutes of football, scoring one goal.

Inter shelled out €29.5m to get the striker from Santos back in August 2016, but the 21-year-old was never given a Serie A start and failed to adapt to European football.

It looks as if this experience is over, at least for the moment, with a return to Santos until June 2019.
