Manolo Gabbiadini admits he would’ve left Southampton earlier, but the return to Sampdoria “feels like I never left.”

The forward had worn the Blucerchiati jersey from the summer of 2013 to January 2015 when he was sold to Napoli, then on to Southampton in January 2017, only to return to Marassi last month.

“It feels like I never left,” Gabbiadini told news agency ANSA.

“I can’t say that I was unhappy in England, because it was a nice experience, but I really did miss Italy. President Massimo Ferrero tried to sign me many times, but there was never the concrete possibility of returning because Southampton didn’t want to sell me.

“However, when the chance appeared this time, I rushed to grab it. I didn’t want to let this opportunity pass me by.”

Gabbiadini is expected to start this weekend against Frosinone, as Sampdoria are battling for Europa League qualification.

“I train hard in every session, then it’s up to the Coach to decide. We can aim for Europe, because this team has the quality to do it.”
