The future is still unclear for Atletico Madrid centre back Mario Hermoso, who has been linked with both Juventus and Aston Villa, transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports.

The 28-year-old Spanish defender has entered the last six months of his contract with Atletico and renewal negotiations have hit a standstill, with the player unconvinced by their latest offer, making a departure in the summer a realistic possibility.

Juventus are moving in a more sustainable direction and are unlikely to spend too heavily in the coming summer transfer window, putting the onus on the club to find opportunities or low-cost deals.

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto told Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that it’s still unclear where Hermoso will end up next season as his departure from Atletico in the summer starts to look increasingly likely.

Aston Villa and Juventus are both seriously interested in the 28-year-old, who still ‘hasn’t reached any agreements with any clubs’ yet.

This season, Hermoso has scored two goals and provided one assist in 2542 minutes of action across 28 games, being a core part of Simeone’s squad.
