Pierluigi Gollini performed a stunning one-handed stop as he sprinted off his line to deny Jamie Vardy from close range.

There were several changes for the second half and Luis Muriel drilled just wide from the edge of the box, but Gollini was again decisive when Ayoze Perez sprung the offside trap on a through ball and Schmeichel denied Ilicic.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Perez knocked the ball past a defender with a dummy and curled the finish into the far bottom corner from just inside the penalty area.

Atalanta tried to fight back, but were caught napping horribly on a throw-in, which allowed Vardy to score relatively undisturbed.

Schmeichel had to smother a Muriel finish and Christian Fuchs saw a scorcher from distance ruled offside due to the build-up.

Musa Barrow was clumsily brought down by Ricardo Pereira and Muriel converted the penalty by sending Schmeichel the wrong way.
