With Milan seemingly beaten by Inter for Marcus Thuram, they could face a similar situation with Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi. ‘We’ll see who can afford him and then he will decide.’

The Derby della Madonnina is being played out on the transfer market as well as on the pitch this summer, as the two rival clubs are battling for several different targets.

According to Foot Mercato and Sky Sport Italia, Thuram has chosen Inter rather than Milan, so being a free agent after his contract ran down at Borussia Monchengladbach it was purely down to his choice.

The situation is different with Frattesi, but perhaps not that different, as outlined by agent Beppe Riso – who also represents Sandro Tonali.

“We have already started settling the meetings and we’ll see over the next few days which club can afford him, then I’ll meet up with Davide and he will decide,” Riso told reporters at the airport as he returned from negotiating Tonali’s sale to Newcastle United.

There have been reports Frattesi has his heart set on Inter, so that was put to the representative.

“I can’t say that before the meetings. I do think Milan will get involved, as they seem to be very concentrated on him.”

Sassuolo are demanding circa €40m including bonuses to sell Italy international Frattesi, who has outright rejected a transfer outside of Italy, as he does not want to leave Serie A yet.

“With (Sassuolo director Giovanni) Carnevali, it is never easy to predict the figures, but we are working on it.”
