Udinese midfielder and Swiss international Valon Behrami has reportedly fractured his ankle after a bizarre incident against Milan.

The veteran, who turns 34 later this month, was accidentally caught in the face from point-blank range by a clearance from one of his own teammates.

The ferocity of the blow left him dazed for a moment and had almost a whiplash-like effect.

However, the real problem was that in that moment of confusion, he fell backwards and his studs appeared to remain on the turf.

Udinese Coach Igor Tudor and director Daniele Prade both wished him well, speaking of a “serious” injury.

He left San Siro on crutches and there are reports the club medics fear a fracture.
