Former Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva announced he has been withdrawn from training with Gremio after a cardiac irregularity was spotted.

A statement from the club was also confirmed by the player himself, as the irregularity was identified during pre-season physical tests.

He will be removed from training until further tests can be performed to get a better idea of the situation.

The Brazil international turns 36 next month and is continuing his career in his homeland with Gremio, having left Lazio as a free agent in July 2022.

Formerly of Liverpool, Leiva spent five years at Lazio, during which he won the Coppa Italia trophy and two editions of the Italian Supercup.

He made 198 competitive appearances in the Biancocelesti jersey, scoring four goals and providing 12 assists for his teammates.

Leiva also amassed 22 senior caps for Brazil.

The most serious injury of his career was at Liverpool in December 2011 when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and had to be out of action for almost 200 days.
