Pau Lopez made a bizarre mistake for Lazio’s goal, as he attempted to punch the ball out for a corner, but failed.

“It’s an unfortunate situation for Pau, but he is a great goalkeeper. I didn’t speak to him about this, it can happen during a match and Pau did so well for us in other games. It was just an unfortunate situation,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am sad, because the lads made me proud today, they played very well against an excellent team. If we look at the statistics, it’s incredible that we didn’t win. We tried to attack constantly and by playing like this, it’s easier to believe in this team.

“I think the lads deserved more than the result they got today.”

Cengiz Under and Justin Kluivert did more work than usual off the ball.

“They worked hard, more than they ever had done, but this is what I always want to see. It’s important for the team that they can help out the defence like that. Everyone had a great game.

“We played with Leonardo Spinazzola more advanced and Davide Santon starting the build-up with three at the back. Kluivert’s position was very important and Under also helped create space down the flanks.

“They have understood what spaces we want to find and we spent practically the entire match in the opposition half. It’s not easy to create scoring opportunities against Lazio, who defend very deep, but we created and the only problem was that we didn’t finish off the chances.”
