Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini risks being banned from the sport because he skipped a doping test to attend Inter’s Champions League Final against Manchester City.

The 36-year-old reached a career high of ninth in the ATP ranking, winning nine titles on the ATP circuit, and had even more success as part of a doubles team with Simone Bolelli.

Now his tennis career is at risk because of his passion for Serie A side Inter.

Sportmediaset report this evening that Fognini is on the verge of a potential ban because he has missed two consecutive doping tests.

The second was particularly odd, as it seems the WADA inspectors arrived at his house to find he was not there, having forgotten to inform them he’d flown out to Istanbul to attend the Champions League Final on June 10.

He watched Inter lose 1-0 to Manchester City and returned home to the news he had missed the test.

Fognini needs to get the situation sorted out before he begins competing at Wimbledon.
