Veretout has been at Fiorentina since 2017 but with the Viola no nearer to breaking into Serie A’s top four, the Frenchman admits he may be forced to start considering his future.

“My dream is to play in the Champions League,” the 26-year-old told La Nazione.

“I think I have the chance. I don’t want to come across as arrogant, but I’ve just turned 26 years old and I think that at my age, I must think positively and about stepping up a level one day.

“For now I’m focused on Fiorentina. This final part of the season is very important for us. By playing well and putting myself on display, I’ll also have the chance of an international call-up.

“My role? I’ve been able to play in front of the defence and then as a ‘mezzala’. It was a way for me to grow as a player, so I thank Pioli for that. I like both sides of the game.”
