Fiorentina are reportedly on the verge of naming their new sporting director, to replace the departing Pantaleo Corvino.

It was recently announced that Corvino’s contract would not be renewed by the struggling Florentines, as they look to initiate a number of changes at the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are speculating that the Viola’s search for a successor is already almost at an end, with the publication believing that Gabriele Oriali is the favourite to come in. Other candidates in the running include Giovanni Sartori, Pietro Lo Monaco and Riccardo Bigon, even if all three are currently under contract at Chievo, Catania and Napoli respectively.

Oriali, who is without a club since leaving the role of technical director at Inter in July 2010, would be available to start work immediately. He has recently also been linked with a return to the San Siro side.

With the Nerazzurri, Oriali is held responsible for a number of high-profile signings, bringing in the likes of Ivan Cordoba, Obafemi Martins, Francesco Toldo, Christian Vieri, Dejan Stankovic, Julio Cesar, Walter Samuel, Douglas Maicon, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Esteban Cambiasso, Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito.
