Bernardeschi will miss approximately three months of the season having sustained a fractured ankle in training yesterday, which he will undergo surgery on today.

Giuseppe Rossi is still out of action following knee surgery and Mario Gomez and Marko Marin are still struggling to reach full fitness after their own lay-offs.

This leaves Vincenzo Montella with Khouma Babacar as his only fit striker, and La Nazione states that this situation will prompt the Viola to move for a new forward in January.

According to the newspaper there are four players on the Artemio Franchi side’s shopping list.

The first two are considered to be the more realistic options, with Goran Pandev and Fabio Borini reportedly being targeted.

Pandev has struggled since moving to Galatasaray in the summer, and is yet to score for Cesare Prandelli’s side.

Similarly, Fabio Borini was unwanted at Liverpool in the summer, but rejected a move to Sunderland in order to stay and fight for his place. However, he has only made one Premier League start so far.

Also said to be on the radar are Marco Borriello of Roma and Atalanta’s German Denis. However, the newspaper believes that a move for either player would be difficult, with Roma unlikely to sell to a rival, and Denis reluctant to leave Bergamo.
