Fiorentina are reportedly considering making a move for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti this summer.

The 28-year-old French centre back has not been included in Xavi’s project in Catalonia and he only made one appearance in the season just gone, playing the full 90 minutes of a 2-2 draw with Osasuna. Umtiti’s career has infamously been derailed by injuries since the 2018 World Cup – since that success, the Frenchman has missed at least 85 matches for the Blaugrana.

As reported by Tuttosport, Fiorentina are keen on the idea of picking up Umtiti this summer on a dry loan deal but they need to figure out how to manage his high salary request; the Frenchman receives €4m net per season, figures that the Viola obviously cannot match.

There are also, predictably, some concerns regarding his physical condition, especially considering that he’s just returned from a fractured toe injury.

Umtiti is keen to re-launch his career though, and he may be convinced of a move to Florence should Fiorentina keen pushing.
