Fiorentina director Carlos Freitas is “optimistic” Gonzalo Rodriguez will sign a contract renewal.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina are in the headlines for their contract talks, as Nikola Kalinic agreed a €50m release clause, but captain Gonzalo Rodriguez is resisting the idea of a 25 per cent pay cut.

“The Kalinic clause was already discussed over the summer, it just remained private until two days ago. It’s not an unusual system.

“Rodriguez is happy, we are currently in negotiations. We presented an offer to the player, who needs to respond. We remain optimistic.”
