“Youssouf has been excellent for us since I have been here and is one of the players we want to keep,” said manager Steve Clarke.

Rumours had been circulating in the Italian media of Fiorentina interest for several days, but it appears the negotiations have stepped up a gear.

The 26-year-old has still not signed a contract extension with WBA and is thought to be considering his options.

Fiorentina have a very strong midfield that includes Alberto Aquilani, Borja Valero and David Pizarro.
