Fiorentina chief medic Luca Pengue admits he went through ‘moments of real fear’ when he was hospitalised with coronavirus, but the six current squad and staff members are asymptomatic.

The Viola have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, as several staff members and players Dusan Vlahovic, Patrick Cutrone and German Pezzella tested positive last month.

When blanket tests were performed before the resumption of training this week, another three unnamed players and three members of staff proved to be infected too.

“The six people are all asymptomatic and the tests show they have a very minor form of the virus,” Doctor Pengue told TGR Rai.

“We are applying the Federation protocol to the letter and the priority for everyone is to be healthy.”

Of all the Fiorentina figures who had the coronavirus, Pengue was the one who had to be briefly hospitalised.

“I had some difficult days and moments of real fear. It was tough for me and my family, leaving bad memories.”
