Fiorentina released an angry statement slamming River Plate for their “insulting and false” comments on Emanuel Mammana.

The negotiations for the defender have broken down and yesterday River Plate President Rodolfo D’Onofrio claimed “at the moment of closing the deal Fiorentina changed the figures.

“It was not professional behaviour. It’s a shame that such an important club as Fiorentina should behave this way. They have to tell the truth.”

Now Fiorentina have hit back with a statement from the Della Valle brothers, patrons of the club.

“With regards to negotiations for the player Emanuel Mammana, the comments from River Plate President Rodolfo D’Onofrio are misplaced, inappropriate and false.

“The language used is insulting to our image and does not represent us. As part of the negotiations, as usual, there is a request and an offer that evidently were too distant compared to what we had previously discussed.

“There was also the emergence of new limitations relative to the future availability of the player’s ownership.”
