The Italy international is looking for a return to his homeland so he can be closer to his family following the death of his father last week.

Sport Mediaset claim the two clubs are in negotiations for an exchange, sending Balotelli to Florence for Mario Gomez.

“I’d be happy for him, because Fiorentina would be another chance that he deserves,” Vincenzo Esposito told Firenzeviola.it.

Esposito was SuperMario’s Coach in the Inter Primavera youth team, so knows the fiery forward well.

“I trained him for many years in the youth academy at Inter and can guarantee that to show all of his quality he just needs a new project, something where he can feel at the centre of it.

“Florence has already shown it’s a great place for players to revive their careers. It’s an intriguing idea, I must admit. It’d be good for Mario and Fiorentina.”

There are still question marks over his character and work-rate, something Esposito fully acknowledges.

“Everything can be overcome at his age, especially as much of the reputation he’s got was his fault. Mario is a player who without doubt can improve, but I won’t blame him for what he’s done in the past.

“Florence would undoubtedly be a great opportunity for him to definitively put himself back on track.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, today hit the headlines by reportedly accepting Manchester City's £49m bid for Raheem Sterling.
