La Repubblica speculated that the Montenegrin’s decision to pull out of the Week 19 fixture without a diagnosed injury from the club’s medical staff has upset the Fiorentina dressing room. However, the club have moved to rubbish these reports.

“Precisely nothing can be directed to our vice-captain, who is a constant example of professionalism on and off the field and who represents a high sense of self-sacrifice and devotion to the Viola shirt,” read an official club statement in response.

It was a denial later reiterated on Monday by the 22-year-old’s teammate Gamberini.

“In some newspapers I have read with surprise that the dressing room was bothered by Jovetic’s forfeit from the Cagliari game.

“As captain of Fiorentina, I deny with force any allegations of this kind. We all hope that Stevan, whose team spirit is undeniable, will soon be fully recovered so he can return and make a vital contribution to the team.

“Ours is an absolutely united dressing room, gossip will only help to strengthen our unity.”
