Fiorentina confirmed they are in negotiations to sell the club to American billionaire Rocco Commisso for a reported €200m.

“During today’s Board of Directors meeting, the Della Valle family announced the existence of negotiations, currently in progress, to sell the club and if it were to go through, would guarantee Fiorentina a new group of shareholders as soon as possible,” read a statement.

“Considering this announcement, the Board of Directors in its entirety voted to hand its mandate over to the owners.”

This means that the Board has given the go-ahead for the sale to be completed.

“A statement will be released, but Della Valle said clearly he was leaving and there’s no need for me to confirm that again,” Board member Andrea Paolo Panerai told FirenzeViola.it as he left the meeting.

“The Board was advised and that is it so far. There is a potential buyer who is negotiating and I don’t need to tell you that it’s Commisso.”

Commisso is a billionaire Italian-American investor who left Calabria as a child and made his fortune in cable, going on to purchase the New York Cosmos football club.

It’s reported the deal will eventually be worth in the region of €200m.

“However, I feel the fans cannot expect any worse than what they experienced from a family without commercial motivations who invested over €300m into a club that had gone bankrupt 17 years ago,” added Panerai.

“The Della Valle brothers didn’t make a cent from this club. Only an idealist like Diego could’ve thought of this approach, but he was treated horribly.”
