Andrea Della Valle feels sorry for Sinisa Mihajlovic, but “Fiorentina are turning over a new leaf” with Delio Rossi.

The patron had defended his Coach for many months amid protests from the fans until finally wielding the axe this week.

Viola supporters have given their verdict already, as 5,000 came out to see Rossi’s first training ground test match against local side Rondinella, which ended 10-0 thanks to five goals from Alberto Gilardino.

“I really wanted to be here for our new tactician’s first game,” said Dell Valle.

“It has been an intense week with many sad moments. This is football, so we honour Mihajlovic, who behaved like a great man.

“He paid the price for some things that weren’t his fault, but the situation had become unsustainable.

“Fiorentina are turning over a new leaf with Rossi, a Coach with experience and quality who we respect. I think he is the right man.

“It’s still November, so there is time, but I believe we can qualify for Europe. The team is working hard and there are tough tests ahead, but I am convinced we can do it.”

This week the Della Valle brothers were also embroiled in the Calciopoli civil trial, which found them guilty of attempting to influence referees along with Luciano Moggi and Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

“I don’t want to come back to this now, but we will emerge clean from all this. We hope there’s no need to go through every level of the appeals courts, but we will prove our innocence.”
