Luca Toni has confirmed that he will bring his playing career to an end once his spell at Fiorentina is over.

“I know that Fiorentina will be my last team, but I don’t know whether this will be my last season,” the 35-year-old noted.

The 2006 World Cup winner re-signed for the Viola on transfer deadline day – five years after leaving the Tuscan club for Bayern Munich.

“I know that Fiorentina had other targets before me,” he added. “But when I was given the opportunity to join again, I opted to put myself on the line in a city which loved me and where I feel at home.

“That’s why I feel that I always have to give something more to Fiorentina.”

Toni has scored three goals in eight Serie A games for the giants this term. He’s only started in three of those matches.

His current contract at Fiorentina expires in June.
