Nikola Kalinic is ready to ‘fight’ with Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann after being unveiled as Atletico Madrid’s new No 9.

Kalinic scored just six goals for Milan last season, but the former Fiorentina striker is confident Atleti’s more physical style of play under Diego Simeone will suit him better.

“I hope to do the maximum for this club and help them achieve all their objectives. We have many of them,” began the Croat.

Kalinic scored just six goals for Milan last season, but the former Fiorentina striker is confident Atleti’s more physical style of play under Diego Simeone will suit him better.

“I hope to do the maximum for this club and help them achieve all their objectives. We have many of them,” began the Croat.

“I still need time. We’ll be playing against an important club in the Super Cup [against Real Madrid], but I hope we win.

“The World Cup? What happened with the national team happened. It was their decision not to rely on me at the World Cup.

“I didn’t get a medal because I didn’t play, nor did I help them achieve their great result.

“Griezmann and Diego Costa are two of the best strikers in Europe, I must fight so I can compete and play.

“I have a lot of respect for them, but there are lots of games and there will be times when they rest.

“I’ve been following this team a lot, I know how they train and I talked to Sime [Vrsaljko], but I need time to get used to the Coach and my work. I have a lot of desire.”
